Join guest host Dan Wang, who just graduated from Xi’an International Studies University in June 2018 and has been serving as an intern with China Radio International Online. Dan is joined in conversation with her friend Ana Mitrovi? from Belgrade, Serbia. Ana is a Archeology doctoral candidate at Northwest University in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province.
Dan and Ana talk about making friends with their fellow students from diverse quarters of the country as well foreign students from around the world.
Their friends' distinctive dialects sometimes present challenges in communicating, and there are sometimes dietary restrictions encountered when going out to dine with their Muslim friends.
There are 56 distinct ethnic groups within China including Tibetan, Mongel, and Manchu, although the Han Chinese account for 95 percent of the population. China’s major religions include Taoism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Islam, and Christianity.
Xi’an has strong Muslim presence with a distinctive Muslim Quarter that is a popular tourist destination, in addition to a popular dining destination for Xi’an locals, including Dan and Ana and their friends.
