Santa Ynez Band of the Chumash Indians

Chumash tribe leaders and government officials gathered in Pismo Beach to celebrate the designation of the Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary. The event was held to coincide with Indigenous Peoples Day.

Last week the Chumash Fire Department in Santa Ynez was honored by tribal leadership and the U.S. Forest Service for their work during fire season. The department was established to train and prepare firefighters for working with the forest service.

Today is Indigenous People’s Day and the release of Netflix’s newest show, Spirit Rangers. The show is created by a Santa Ynez Chumash community member, who's now the first California Native American showrunner to premiere on the streaming service.
