Substitute Host/Freelance ReporterYalina Harris began at KCBX in January of 2024 as an intern in our newsroom. Her talent on the mic led her to begin training as a substitute announcer. You can occasionally hear her as a local host on Morning Edition, All Things Considered and Weekend Edition. Yalina then began as a stringer for KCBX News during the summer of 2024.
She's currently working towards earning her Journalism degree at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo. Yalina was previously managing editor for the "Cuestonian," the student newspaper on campus. In her free time she enjoys hiking, reading, and hanging out at the beach.

A hillside fire called the Bishop Fire went ablaze near San Luis Obispo High School at about 4:30 Tuesday morning. It caused evacuations and left about 3,000 local residents without power until 10 a.m. Tuesday. Local fire officials said the Bishop Fire burned about 12-acres and should be fully contained by Wednesday morning.
