Brian Lanzone
Substitute HostBrian Lanzone can be heard guest hosting the occasional KCBX music program and also fills in as a local announcer during Morning Edition, All Things Considered, and other national programs.
Brian was born into a musical family and developed a passion for music of all genres at an early age. His main instrument is the upright bass but he also plays guitar, drums, piano, clarinet, and the jaw harp to name a few. Brian puts his musical diversity to use around the Central Coast performing live music in bands that vary from jazz big bands, to funk groups, to the SLO Symphony.
A San Luis Obispo native, Brian stayed close to home to earn an Associate of Arts degree in Jazz Studies on upright bass from Cuesta College. Immediately after graduation Brian began performing music on cruise ships traveling to the Caribbean, Alaska, South America, Australia, Mexico, New Zealand, and Indonesia. He later earned his Bachelor of Music degree on full scholarship from the University of Nevada, Reno, where he met his future wife, Emily. Having traveled virtually around the globe, Brian decided to move back to the Central Coast. He now resides in Morro Bay with Emily and son Kieran, where he enjoys surfing, performing music, and spending time with his family.
