Donor Stories

KCBX is possible only because a caring community of listeners are actively engaged with the station.

  • A volunteer Board of Directors provides policy oversight and guidance.
  • Dozens of volunteer program hosts provide hours of quality program content.
  • Hundreds of volunteers make the Live Oak Music Festival our most successful fundraising event.
  • Local businesses provide program underwriting support.
  • Thousands of listeners pledge their annual financial support.

Here are some of the stories about people creating and sustaining KCBX - their community radio station.

Jay Thompson, Cal Poly

Cal Poly President Jeffrey Armstrong spent more than any other CSU president on travel expenses, according to a report by the Los Angeles News Group.

Revelers at the Second Annual Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball enjoyed a lively evening of music, dance, Cajun cuisine and libations at King David Masonic Hall in downtown San Luis Obispo last Saturday night. Net proceeds from the sold-out event, totaling over $1,000, were donated to KCBX Public Radio by the event's producers - Bon Temps Creole Cafe and Burning James and the Funky Flames.

Nancy Koren

Okay, this isn't quite a cat video, but it's close. We've heard stories about listener's pets who, as much as their cohabiting humans, love to listen to KCBX. Here's evidence submitted by long-time KCBX listener and supporter Nancy Koren. Nancy is a composer, pianist and educator. It appears that her cat Phoebe has picked up some piano technique from Nancy. She's also picked up a taste for quality radio.
