The Food Bank for Monterey County is working to restore its services following last weekend's arson fire.

Officials say that they have seen a lot of community support in the wake of the incident.

Food Bank Executive Director Melissa Kendrick says her organization's programs should resume soon, and emergency food deliveries picked up again on Tuesday.

The organization's delivery truck fleet was destroyed and half of the facility's refrigeration storage was knocked out Saturday.

Monterey County's only food bank is struggling this week to distribute resources to those in need, following what investigators are now calling an arson fire.  Damage caused by the crime is far reaching.

The Salinas Fire Department said Monday it has video surveillance footage that confirms Saturday's fire was purposely set by an individual.

One of the largest organizations to provide much needed meals to hungry people along the Central Coast, confirmed plans Thursday for a major change to its operation.

The Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County wants to shut down its facilities in Paso Robles and Oceano so that it can consolidate those operations into one larger warehouse that's centrally located.

Thanksgiving week is one of the busiest weeks of the year for food banks on the Central Coast as they work to satisfy holiday needs while maintaining the daily service they provide throughout the year.

Locally, statistics show as many as one in four people suffer from food insecurity, with a large number of these being children and seniors. To help combat this, Food Banks function as a hub, partnering with hundreds of organizations to distribute food to the various regions.

During this time of year, food banks see a spike in donations of both food and money.
