State Parks plans to address storm damage in Point Lobos, Central Coast with closures

Wikipedia

California State Parks is preparing for closures along the Big Sur coast in the coming months.

Strong storms could down trees that have been stressed by the drought. Jim Bilz is the department's Monterey Sector Superintendent. He works in the Point Lobos State Natural Reserve.

He said if there are closures in the Reserve, they are for public safety and to protect natural resources.

Reserves have a higher classification than state parks, and make up a small portion of parks in the state.

Bilz said because of the predicted conditions, State Parks will be focusing on this throughout the California, as coastal areas can see a lot of damage.

Closures should remain in effect until any hazard is cleared.
