Santa Barbara County authorities looking for patient with drug-resistant strain of tuberculosis

Santa Barbara County OES

The Santa Barbara County Office of Emergency Services (OES) issued an Urgent Public Health Issue advisory Friday morning regarding a case of drug-resistant tuberculosis.

"Agustin Zeferino, a 24 year old male, has a contagious case of drug-resistant tuberculosis," the advisory said. "Without proper treatment, Mr. Zeferino’s condition poses a serious health risk to individuals who come into close contact with him, as tuberculosis is spread through the air from one person to another."

Zeferino has discontinued treatment and his whereabouts are unknown, according to OES. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

The office warns, "close contact with Mr. Zeferino is not recommended."

Mr. Zeferino has received extensive information and medical consultation about his health condition, according to the statement.
