San Luis Obispo County looking to split General Services into four new departments

San Luis Obispo County is looking to dissolve its current General Services Department and in its place, create four new departments.

The Board of Supervisors will consider the proposal Tuesday during the regularly scheduled supervisors meeting.

The new departments would include General Services, Information Technologies (IT), Parks and Recreation, and Airports.

County Administrative Officer Dan Buckshi says the move should allow for greater focus in the given areas.

“They’ll be able to really zero-in on what they do, and not have to worry about the three other divisions that really don’t have that much in common with them," said Buckshi. "There will be one less layer of meaning with the management these four departments will report directly to me as opposed to reporting to an agency director.”

Buckshi says should the supervisors vote in favor of this new plan, the departments could be up and running within 30 days.
