Report: Economy looking up for Santa Barbara County

The economic outlook for Santa Barbara County shows continued growth in the coming year according to the latest University of California Santa Barbara Economic Forecast Project report.

Each spring the project releases a series of reports on the area. Thursday's forecast focused on the South Coast region, including Santa Barbara, Capinteria, and Goleta.

Dr. Peter Rupert, Chair of the Department of Economics at UCSB, says personal income and Gross Domestic Produce (GDP) growth remained flat for several years, but in the past year has started to take off.

"Growth looks very robust across all of the sectors," said Rupert. "Banking sectors, farm, non-farm—all seem to be growing like we haven't seen in a while."

Friday the team will present findings for northern Santa Barbara County, including Santa Maria and Lompoc.
