Refugio State Beach to reopen nearly two months after pipeline oil spill

Lisa Osborn, KCBX News

Refugio State Beach was cleared by California State Parks to reopen next Friday, July 17, 2015 at noon.

The beach has been closed since the Plains All-American pipeline oil spill back on May 19.

State Parks and members of the Unified Command said Thursday that they completed a site assessment of the beach and deemed it safe for the public. All recreational activities can resume including swimming, camping and fishing.

Non-state park areas near Refugio will remain closed as cleanup work continues.

El Capitan State Beach was also closed following the spill. It opened on June 26.
