Pair of auto crashes knock out power to thousands on the Central Coast

Nearly 5000 PG&E customers on the Central Coast lost power this afternoon when a car collided with a utility pole on Highway 1 south of Arroyo Grande.

Power was restored to the area around 5:00 p.m. according to Grover Beach police.

The driver was trapped in her car for about 20 minutes following the crash because of live power lines, but was safely removed according to Five Cities resident Peter Klein.

A similar crash happened Thursday morning in Guadalupe where a stolen car ran into a power pole during a chase from police. The car was stolen in southern San Luis Obispo County according to Guadalupe Police.

In this case, a few hundred customers lost power.
