One dead, one injured in Cold Spring hiking fall

Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department is looking into a weekend hiking incident along Cold Spring Trail that killed one person and seriously injured another.

Investigators say 22-year-old Saylor Guilliams of Ventura is recovering from two broken ankles at a Santa Barbara area hospital. She was rescued by helicopter after being spotted by a group of hikers on Monday afternoon.

Her hiking partner, 22-year-old Brenden Vega's body was found by another group of hikers on Monday morning. He died after falling 20-30 feet, while on his way to get help after the pair fell initially.

The sheriff's department says the couple went hiking Sunday evening and did not have enough light to illuminate the trail.
