One Central Coast town has good reason to be excited about the upcoming release of the feature animated film "Finding Dory," the sequel to the extremely popular "Finding Nemo."
A preview of the film recently revealed a plot point that mentions Morro Bay by name. During the film's first 27 minutes, Dory—the film's forgetful main character—remembers she's from a place called "The Jewel of Morro Bay" according to Entertainment Weekly.
Morro Bay Tourism Bureau Executive Director Brent Haugen says Disney Pixar Films did not give him a heads-up about the mention, but he's thrilled about it.
"The possibilities are endless in terms of being able to capitalize on this," said Haugen. "It's rather exciting for Morro Bay, to have people kind of rally around this. You can definitely tell that most people have smiles on their faces when they do hear the news."
There had been speculation that Dory, voiced by Ellen DeGeneres, would be from Monterey Bay as researchers for the film spent a lot of time at the Aquarium.
The film is scheduled to be released on June 17, 2016.
