Military officials say Central Coast residents can expect to see increased activity around the California National Guard post that straddles the border of Monterey and San Luis Obispo counties, adjacent to Highway 101. Camp Roberts officials said over the next few months, there will be more soldiers on the base and more military vehicles on the roads.
In late January and late February, according to a notice sent out by the base’s public affairs office on Thursday, there will be more activity on the Camp Roberts weapons ranges and military personnel are planning a "significant rise in rail activity," which could close the Mission Street on-ramp in San Miguel during the last week in January.
Officials have not responded to a request for more information as to the cause of the escalation of military activity on the base.
