Kinko's founder invests to make Santa Barbara start-up center a reality

A well-known Central Coast businessman is investing heavily in a new project that's aimed at encouraging entrepreneurs and innovative start-ups.

Kinkos founder Paul Orfalea is now the lead investor in a space called the Impact HUB, according to a release Thursday on the project's website.

Plans for the Impact HUB call for a co-working facility in Santa Barbara's downtown. Much like San Luis Obispo's HotHouse facility, the Impact HUB will provide relatively affordable workspace, resources and education to encourage new products and businesses.

Orfalea's investment "secures the launch" of the project, the release said. It's expected to open on State Street by this spring.

“I’m excited to help bring the Impact Hub to Santa Barbara," said Dan Ferrick, the facility's co-founder. "It will be a place for people, ideas and businesses to collaborate and collide."
