King City appoints new police chief with community input

City of King - KingCity.com

King City named new Chief of Police on Monday. The city has been looking for a new police chief since a corruption scandal surfaced in February of last year.

The police department is in the middle of rebuilding it's strained relationship with the community.

The appointment of Chief Ron Forgue was a community effort. A panel of King City residents established its own criteria for finding the new police chief, including a strong background in community policing, public outreach, and an understanding of Spanish.

Mayor Robert Cullen says he wants the public to give the new chief and officers a chance to prove themselves.

"I don't expect the public to blindly trust not only the new police chief as well as the new officers that are coming on board," Cullen said. "I think they and I recognize that trust is built up over time."

Chief Forgue plans on immediately enacting a Trust Committee that will give him direct feedback on how the public feels his force is performing.
