December 26, 2012: Join Brian Reynolds and Kristine Tardiff from the SLO County Library as they discuss the importance of providing positive experiences for youth through focusing on the developing of assets. The developmental assets are 40 common sense, positive experiences and qualities that help influence the choices young people make and help them become caring, responsible, successful adults. They will also be discussing some upcoming events focusing on how to build a community without bullying.

December 26, 2012: The Reluctant Therapist: Now that we are finally able to settle back and relax after a hectic season of giving and receiving, it's a good time to discuss how we can continue the spirit of service to those in need, not just over the holidays - but year round. Elizabeth Barrett, The Reluctant Therapist talks with Teri Kerchefski, Executive Director of the Child Development Center, about ways we can help children, their families, and the programs that work to support them.

December 19, 2012: Larry Rutter talks with Roger Durling, head of upcoming Santa Barbara International Film Festival; Cal Poly Professor George Cotkin about his new book on the modern day influence of Herman Melville's 150 year old novel "Moby Dick"; and, San Luis Obispo Supervisor Adam Hill about the positives and negatives of having the Tour of California bicycle race come to Avila Beach.

December 12, 2012: Gene Strohl talks with therapist and attorney Bill Eddy and psychologist and mediator Don Saposnek about their recent publication, Splitting America. The book deals with parallels the authors have discovered between what happens in "high-conflict" divorce cases and what is happening today in the political arena in America.

December 5, 2012:For low-income folks, winter can be a hard time - especially without the resources to fix a broken furnace or buy weather stripping - or even to pay the energy bill. Well, there's help for you or a neighbor who might need home energy assistance. Marisa Waddell talks with Michael Daly, an energy services outreach coordinator who offers low-flow showerheads, new furnaces, weatherization, low-energy light bulbs and lots more to local people in need.

November 28, 2012(a): Brian Reynolds and Kristine Tardiff talk with San Luis Obispo County Veteran Services Officer Dana Cummings about services provided to veterans locally.

November 28, 2012(b): Christmas gifting can be a great source of stress financially and emotionally. The Reluctant Therapist, Elizabeth Barrett, discusses ways to relieve that stress, including the new smART Studio - a green studio and gallery promoting creative reuses for artists of all ages - with founder Teri Kurchevski.

November 21, 2012: San Luis Obispo County Supervisor Bruce Gibson will be Larry Rutter's guest for a live interview and listener comments and questions. Among the topics of discussion will be the Coastal Commission's recent decision on seismic testing at Diablo Canyon, and other key issues the supervisors are grappling with, including the financial future of the county.

November 14, 2012(a):Join travel correspondent Tom Wilmer on the dock in Morro Bay as he visits with Margie Hurd, the owner of SLO Fresh Catch, a community supported fishery, and local fisherman and restaurant owner, Mark Tognazzini. They'll discuss the sustainable fisheries industry and how it pertains to the local consumer.

November 14, 2012(b): Jake Blair looks into a recent study from UCSB that advocates for a third classification of seafood, and how local residents can take steps to ensure that their fish eating habits aren't harmful to the environment here or abroad.

November 14, 2012(c): Crissa Hewitt and Stephen DeLuque present a variation on their annual holiday show. This year -- stories that speak to Thanksgiving. We have all been taught about the joys of being a giver, but the art of being the recipient is an amazing return gift.

October 31, 2012:There's public art all over San Luis Obispo. Brian Reynolds and Kristine Tardiff of the San Luis Obispo County Library talk about public art with Shannon Bates. She's the recreation and public art manager for the City of San Luis Obispo, which is currently featuring art on utility boxes in the city core, and is sponsoring a mural project in the atrium of the city library.

August 22, 2012 (c): Travel correspondent Tom Wilmer takes us to the Briscoe Center for American History in Austin, Texas, with its premier collection documenting antebellum Southern life, the largest collection of Congressional history outside of Washington, D.C., and one of the largest collections of news media and journalism, including Walter Cronkite's entire archive.

August 15, 2012:In the next week or so millions of students will be returning to school throughout much of California. Parents and students are wondering what they will find, especially given the major financial problems facing most districts. The superintendents of two of San Luis Obispo County's school districts - Jim Hogeboom of Lucia Mar and Eric Prater of San Luis Coastal will join hose Larry Rutter live in the studio to talk about what students and parents can expect that will be different when classes begin, and take listener questions and comments.

July 11, 2012: There's a local group working to establish a self-sustaining community village of tiny homes where homeless adults can live in peace, with dignity. Hope's Village of SLO is being planned, not just by advoates for the homeless, but by local homeless individuals, too. We'll hear from the founder of Hope's Village.

June 27, 2012 (b): Travel correspondent Lisa Sonne visits El Paca Pastures, a working alpaca ranch in Ojai. She learns that besides being cute and gentle, alpacas have hypo-allergenic fleece, they hum, and they are an eco-friendly livestock choice.

June 27, 2012 (c): Join San Luis Obispo County Library Director Brian Reynolds as he talks with Jenn Rhodes from Friday Night Live and Dan Hartzell of the YMCA. They'll discuss bullying, and what is being done locally to help youth, families, schools and organizations take a stand against bullying - specifically with the Anti-Defamation League's "No Place for Hate" programs in the schools.

Rich Kurrasch is a retired pastor and current executive director or the local nonprofit People of Faith for Justice. Marisa Waddell talks with both of them about an upcoming activist workshop and talk by Bob Edgar called "The Corrosive Influence of Money in Politics."

June 6, 2012:Marisa Waddell visits with nationally renowned humorist and author Polly Frost, who grew up in Santa Barbara County, and returns this month to perform her show, "How to Survive Your Adult Relationship With Your Family."

May 30, 2012: Marisa Waddell visits with the current and past presidents of the Cayucos Land Conservancy, which has preserved miles of land already, and is currently working hard to save 16-hundred hillside lots overlooking the town, and some coastal terrace and hillsides south of Cayucos.

April 18, 2012: Wild Cherry Canyon is a land preservation project that could greatly expand scenic and recreational offerings on the Central Coast. Larry Rutter talks with Kara Blakeslee, who has been spearheading the effort to acquire land, and integrate it into Montana de Oro State Park.

April 18, 2012: Midwives help usher new lives into this world, and keep mothers safe, strong and informed before, during and after birth. In this program, we learn more about women who catch babies.

April 11, 2012: There's a local nonprofit doing important work promoting sustainable vineyard practices. It's the Central Coast Vineyard Team - and Marisa Waddell has a conversation with its executive director.

March 28, 2012:Marisa Waddell speaks with Alyce Crawford, family care consultant with the Coast Caregiver Resource Center and Bob Rouleau, a client of the program. Caregiver Resource Centers throughout the state offer help for unpaid caregivers of adults with cognitive disorders or other disabling conditions. The centers provide information, respite care, counseling and other support. This state-funded resource is in jeopardy of disappearing, though, because of budget cuts. This discussion covers what this resource offers, why it's important, and why it's at risk.
