Hundreds evacuated as Park Hill Fire grows to 1200 acres

CAL FIRE crews are battling the largest wildfire to hit the Central Coast this year. At more than 1200 acres, the Park Hill fire near Santa Margarita in San Luis Obispo County was just 15 percent contained as of Sunday morning.

Two homes have been destroyed in the blaze and an estimated 500 people are under evacuation orders, according to CAL FIRE San Luis Obispo.

An evacuation center for those residents was converted into an overnight shelter on Saturday. It is being operated by the American Red Cross of the Pacific Coast at Santa Margarita Elementary School.

A strike team of engines and a helicopter from Santa Barbara County fire was sent Saturday night to help with the efforts.
