Full bounce back for Monterey County food bank following arson fire

Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County Facebook Page

The Food Bank of Monterey County could be back up to full-capacity by the end of the week.

The quick turn-around comes after a devastating arson fire just four weeks ago.

The Food Bank's entire fleet of trucks as well as a key refrigeration unit were damaged in the fire last month setting back operations.

Melissa Kendrick is the Food Bank's Executive Director and says they're fortunate that critical food needs were addressed the entire time but at a greater financial cost.

The Food Bank has been renting refrigerated warehouse space while their facilities were repaired. Trucks are now pulling up to the loading dock and she's hoping to be fully operating by Friday.

"We have restored the warehouse and now it's just a matter of filling it up with all the food we had to dispose of, so that we can be up and running to full capacity," said Kendrick.

She isn't sure where the investigation into the arson now stands, but knows there's a reward to help catch the person responsible.
