Find out how a tsunami could affect your county

State of California

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the California Office of Emergency Services (OES), along with officials from the Central Coast are working to test tsunami warning systems tomorrow morning in the coastal areas of central and southern California.

The test, which begins Wednesday, March 26 at 10:15 a.m., is part of Tsunami Preparedness Week which coincides with the 50th anniversary of the massive earthquake and wave to hit Alaska in 1964. NOAA uses the week to promote tsunami safety and awareness, urging coastal residents and visitors to prepare for such an event.

The test will be broadcast on local television and radio stations, including KCBX.  If there is excessive seismic activity with 24 hours of the test, it will be canceled to avoid confusion.
