End of Life Options Act

Broadcast date: 6/9/16

On June 9th, California’s End of Life Option Act (SB 128) will go into effect, and the state will become the fifth in the U.S. to permit physician-assisted suicide for the terminally ill. That means that a patient who has been diagnosed as having six months or less to live can then request life-ending medication from their physicians. The law has been highly controversial, and heavily protested, by groups far and wide, from faith groups to patients rights’ organizations. Now, with its passage, efforts turn towards educating the terminally ill, their families and medical providers about the law.

Kris Kington-Barker is co-host of Central Coast Voices, heard every Thursday on KCBX from 1:00—12:00 p.m. Kris has worked in healthcare fields ranging from mental health to hospital administration, and has served as a volunteer and board member for many Central Coast non-profit organizations.
