A Different Point of View

Broadcast date: 6/11/2015

Although there are a number of valuable career mentoring programs for youth on the Central Coast, there are none quite like this one. Through aviation education and mentoring, a Different Point of View shows students a world they’ve never seen before.

For youth who may struggle in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) the Aviation Career Program at a Different Point of View offers practical applications that promote learning through hands-on, interactive experiences. Not only do youth receive flight lessons in a Cessna 172, ground school instruction and aircraft maintenance training, but they also participate in self-awareness and leadership training and interact with guest speakers from every facet of the aviation industry. The Aviation Career Program provides youth with a new understanding of a variety of options the aviation world has to offer and their potential place in it. Through the experience youth gain self-confidence, self-advocacy and the belief that they can succeed in the world.

Join host Kris Kington-Barker as she speaks with Lynn Houston, Founder, A Different Point of View, whose mission is to engage, inspire and transform youth using flight lessons as a launching pad. She will be joined by students from the Aviation Career Program.

Central Coast Voices is sponsored by ACTION for Healthy Communities in collaboration with KCBX and made possible through underwriting by Joan Gellert-Sargen.
