Broadcast date: 3/16/17
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) individuals face discrimination in almost all aspects of their lives. They are often denied access to employment, education, housing, health care, and yes, even bathrooms. They are targeted for attacks solely because of their gender expression or perceived sexual orientation. Many face violence.
Over the last few decades the LGBT community have won a number or key victories in state and federal battles, and have continued to make progress in their fight for equal rights, however, recently one of these victories was withdrawn, when in February the Trump administration rescinded the guidance issued by President Obama providing protections for transgender students under Title IX, the federal law banning sex discrimination in schools. What’s next for gay and transgender rights as a wave of new anti-LGBT legislation is being proposed across the country?
Join host Fred Munroe as he speaks with guests Jessica Lynn, activist, public speaker, and transgender woman and Chris Roney, a Contributor with The Huffington Post and a Campus Representative with the New York Times, as they discuss LGBT rights and the national battle of the bathroom.
