Cybersecurity in our community

Broadcast date: 1/14/16

What is cybersecurity and why do we need it?

Cybersecurity involves protecting computers and information from a variety of cyber threats. Since 2014 cybersecurity incidents have surged at least 38%. Understanding how to protect ourselves from this type of crime is necessary to ensure the protection of sensitive personal and business information, as well as our own national security. Increasing cybersecurity can protect not only individuals, but also the businesses and health and financial institutions that serve the community. At least 90% of Americans believe that a safe and secure internet is vital to the economic security of our nation.

Join host Fred Munroe as he speaks with William J. Britton, Visiting Interim CIO and Cybersecurity Center Director at California Polytechnic State University, Lieutenant Colonel Jay Coggan of the California Military Department, and Tom Lebens Partner with Fitch Even Intellectual Property Law Firm, as they discuss the importance of cybersecurity in our tech heavy world.

Central Coast Voices is sponsored by ACTION for Healthy Communities in collaboration with KCBX and made possible through underwriting by Joan Gellert-Sargen.

Fred Munroe is a co-host of the KCBX talk show Central Coast Voices, heard every Thursday afternoon from 1:00-2:00. Fred has successfully divided his time as a local entrepreneur, political leader, and communicator. He owns and manages two local firms addressing personal travel planning and public transportation; Travel With Fred and Ridership Development Consultants.
