CSU Chancellor addresses questions from Cal Poly students and faculty

The head of the California State University (CSU) system is on the Cal Poly campus on Tuesday, where he held a question and answer session with students, faculty and staff.

Chancellor Timothy White addressed issues including the number of out-of-state and undocumented students, as well as issues surrounding LGBT acceptance.

White also said there is currently $2 billion in deferred maintenance system-wide that needs to be addressed, and said that number is growing by $200 million annually.

Members of the California Faculty Association (CFA) held protest signs during the event showing displeasure with current pay rates. The chancellor said he can't address negotiations, but said he understands where faculty is coming from and respects the bargaining process.

The CFA and CSU were at an impasse as of Tuesday evening. The results of a strike authorization vote was expected to be announced sometime on Wednesday.
