Cold temperatures force Hard Freeze Warning for areas of Central Coast

Randol White - KCBX News

Farmers and residents are bracing for another cold night along the Central Coast with a Hard Freeze Warning kicking into effect during the early morning hours on Saturday.

The National Weather Service says protective measures should be taken with plants and crops that are sensitive to the extreme cold. Also, vulnerable pets and animals should be moved indoors during the coldest period from 3:00 to 9:00 a.m.

Exposed water pipes should be wrapped to keep them from bursting.

A Hard Freeze Warning means temperatures of 28 degrees or lower are forecast to last for two or more hours.

The warning covers the interior valleys of San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties, and includes the cities of Paso Robles, Atascadero and Cuyama.

A general Freeze Warning is also in effect Saturday morning for Southern Monterey County, and the Santa Maria and Lompoc Valleys.

While the general Freeze Warning is not as severe as the Hard Freeze Warning, with temperatures between 29 and 32 degrees, similar precautions should be taken.
