Central Coast Voices: Archives (May 2013)

Trains are still an integral part of our transportation options on the Central Coast. Joining Fred Munroe this week to take a serious look at the evolution of local and statewide rail travel will be Pete Rodgers, the foremost local expert on train travel, and Scott Spaulding with the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments. Fred and his guests will explore some of the best kept secrets about expanding rail service on the California coast in the years to come.

This week on Central Coast Voices, we talk to Liz Moody representing Habitat for Humanity and the Home Builders Association. We will be hearing how Habitat helps families in our area and about a new partnership between the two organizations and their exciting new project called the Building Blitz. Learn about them and how you can join in with them in building homes for needy families.

This week on Central Coast Voices, Fred Munroe will be speaking with Andrea Wasko and Meaghan Gilbert who put on financial training seminars called "The Economics of Being a Woman". They will be talking about the information, tools, and resources they provide to help all women to be financially educated and able to manage their money at every stage of life.

Immigration reform is an issue with huge national implications, but it also will have a large effect here on the Central Coast. Kris Kington Barker will be talking with immigration attorneys, Kevin Gregg and Matthew Guerrero, who are also involved in the Latino Outreach Council. They will talk about the influence legal and illegal immigration has on our local economy and public services, and they’ll address the perceptions and often misconceptions of who Central Coast immigrants are and the many roles they play in our communities.
