Central Coast musician and teacher 'Botso' Korisheli dies at 93

'BOTSO' (2014)

The family of a well-known music teacher on the Central Coast is planning a memorial service for next month.

Dr. Wachtang 'Botso' Korisheli was a musician, sculptor, and teacher to many. He founded the San Luis Obispo Youth Symphony in 1965 and several of his students have become world-class musicians.

In 2014, the documentary 'BOTSO' about his life was released. The film's director Tom Walters says Korisheli's legacy is profound.

"He was still teaching, literally, he was teaching this week all they way up to his death at 93 years old-- and still vital and creative and still inspiring other people," said Walters.

The San Luis Obispo Symphony released a statement Tuesday saying they "look forward to celebrating his life and work this season through music."
