Cal Poly opens new center to help veterans with their education, careers

Jay Thompson, Cal Poly

A new Veterans Success Center was officially dedicated Thursday on the Cal Poly campus. It's designed to help veterans and their dependents become successful students, and move on into their careers.

The number of vets and their dependents attending Cal Poly is on the rise with more than 300 enrolled in the 2014/2015 school year.

“We’re providing a one-stop shop for our veterans and dependents at Cal Poly, helping them to be successful students and move on into their careers,” said Everette Brooks, the Veterans Success Center coordinator in a media statement. “The center is also an acknowledgement of Cal Poly’s rich military history, while at the same time helping as many veterans come to Cal Poly as possible.”

Attending Thursday's dedication were Central Coast Congresswoman Lois Capps (D-Santa Barbara) and Central Valley Congressman Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) who is a Cal Poly alum and veteran.
