Brush fire ignites on Nipomo Mesa

A vegetation fire broke out Thursday afternoon on the Nipomo Mesa in San Luis Obispo County. 

UPDATE: 7/23/17  7:32 p.m.: Fire crews extinguished the fire Saturday night. CalFire SLO said one engine stayed on scene to patrol. 

UPDATE: 7/21/17  2:45 p.m.: No change in status of the fire as of Friday afternoon.

UPDATE: 7/21/17 8:43 a.m.: As of Friday morning, firefighters have the Zenon Fire 70 percent contained. 

As of 9 p.m. Thursday night, the fire had grown to 47 acres, with firefighters controlling 40 percent of the blaze.

Evacuations of nearby homes were briefly ordered, but those orders were lifted around 3:30 p.m. The fire started on Zenon Way in Arroyo Grande.

The county says many area residents are calling 9-1-1 reporting smoke from the Zenon fire.
