Asian Citrus Psyllid makes push into San Luis Obispo County

California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA)

California’s citrus orchards are threatened by an invasive pest that has the potential to spread an industry damaging disease throughout the state, possibly creating billions of dollars in damage.

Until recently the Asian Citrus Psyllid had been found throughout Southern California with a couple of sightings in Santa Barbara County, but it appears the pest is making its way north with a recent sighting in Arroyo Grande.

We spoke with San Luis Obispo County Agriculture Commissioner Martin Settevendemie about what the new discovery means, plans to contain the problem, and what the public can do to help.
