Arrest of bank robbery suspect may solve SLO county spree

Arroyo Grande Police Department

A string of bank robberies in San Luis Obispo County may be solved with the arrest Thursday night of a pair of suspects in Atascadero.

Police say 55-year-old George Gonzales and 33-year-old Tonia Young were taken into custody following a robbery at the Chase branch on El Camino Real in Atascadero.

Commander Joe Allen with the Atascadero Police Department says the male suspect could also be tied to a couple of bank robberies in the Five Cities area over the past month.

"There's a lot of different costumes he's been wearing, different things to cover himself up," said Allen. "But, physically he seems to match the descriptions and we're working on those angles with Pismo and Arroyo Grande as we speak."

Commander Allen says investigators are also working with the FBI on this case.
