Imagine Tina Turner singing country music. Now, imagine a voice that goes beyond this by blending, soul, blues, country and R&B into a fresh, intuitive and well-written style of music…that is Petrella. With more than 25 years as a singer/songwriter and recording artist, Petrella’s style melds hints of Aretha Franklin, Patsy Cline, Macy Gray and – yes – Tina Turner into a beautiful, versatile sound all her own. Petrella, The First Lady of Country Soul, brings her blend of R&B, blues, country with a rock edge to Chateau Lettau.
Discovered in California, this inventive new sound landed Petrella on the cover of Cash Box magazine and produced five singles that landed in the top 100 on the Country Music Charts, with a Glen Frey penned song, ”I Found Somebody,” remaining on the charts for 14 weeks. In addition a single from her “100 Proof Woman” CD climbed to Number 14 on the Billboard Hot Country Single Sales Chart. Petrella has performed on the Ernest Tubbs Midnight Jamboree Radio Show (Nashville, TN) and has opened for Gladys Knight (Bill Pickett Black Cowboy Rodeo, Pomona, CA). With 7 nationally distributed CD’s Petrella has made history as the first African-American female country singer on the cover of CashBox Magazine (1993) as well as featured in “Liner Notes,” Indiana University’s Archives of African American Music and Culture publication (2012) and as part of the History Makers oral history.
