Direct from off-Broadway, the Clark Center for the Performing Arts presents The Great American Trailer Park Musical, a hilarious musical about life at Florida’s most exclusive Trailer Park, Armadillo Acres. There’s a storm brewin’, and it ain’t any old hurricane, as a stripper on the run named Pippi wreaks havoc on the life of agoraphobic Jeannie, her toll-booth collector husband and the nosy neighbors of this tight-knit mobile home community. With an outrageous and electrifying score, the GATP may deal with spray cheese, Dr. Phil, road kill, hysterical pregnancy, agoraphobia, an electric chair, strippers and more, but it’s the colorful characters and lasting friendships that are the heart of this side-splitting new musical. Tickets range from $35-$45 and are available by calling 805-489-9444 or visiting www.clarkcenter.org.

RE/MAX OPEN HOUSE CELEBRATES
LUNAR NEW YEAR!!!
Residents of the Central Coast are invited to a unique Open House this coming Thursday, February 7, as RE/MAX Seven Cities Realty of Morro Bay ushers in the Lunar New Year.
As Western culture rings in the New Year every January, Chinese culture similarly celebrates the New Year, albeit a little later in the Winter. This local celebration is the brainchild of RE/MAX top producer Sherry Sim, a native of Singapore.
“Chinese culture celebrates the new year with the coming together of friends and family, all sharing delicious food and generally creating an atmosphere of happiness and prosperity,” said Ms. Sim. “I thought it would be a fun way for us all to get together with our colleagues and customers to welcome 2008, which is the Year of the Rat”.
In addition to a wide array of Asian foods and treats, celebrants will have an opportunity to enjoy a lion dance performance by the Cal Poly Lion Dance Team.
Anyone wishing to usher in the Lunar New Year is invited to join the staff of RE/MAX Seven Cities Realty, 815 Morro Bay Blvd. Bring your good karma, your wishes for prosperity and general good nature and celebrate “The Year of the Rat” from 3 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, February 7, 2008!

On Friday, February 8 at 8:00 pm, Reader’s Theatre of the SLO Little Theatre will present a staged reading of Lou Shaw’s play, Worse than Murder. The play revisits the events surrounding 1951 trial of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg, who were found guilty of and executed for passing information on the American nuclear bomb to the Soviet Union. In this play the controversial case is relived through the eyes of Rosenberg’s two now-adult sons. It is a story of love, family, espionage, betrayal, politics and a government over-reaching its boundaries.
The playwright Lou Shaw is an award-winning TV film writer, producer and the co-creator of “Quincy”. Shaw produced “McCloud,” “The Fall Guy” in addition to developing “Beyond Westworld.” He has scripted over 200 film and television scripts for shows that include among others, “Columbo”, “All in the Family”, “Mission Impossible”, “Ironside”, “Mannix”,and “I Love Lucy”. In 1978 he won an Edgar Allen Poe Edgar award for one of his teleplays for “Quincy M.E.” Shaw has also written a novel, Honor Thy Son.
Shaw, who spent years researching the Rosenberg case, will host a question and answer session following the reading.
Information regarding the “Rosenberg Fund for Children” will be available. The fund, developed by Robby Meeropol, youngest son of the Rosenbergs, is a non profit organization that provides educational and emotional assistance to children whose parents have been targeted for their progressive activities.

To help local communities effectively participate in the environmental review process, the Planning and Conservation League Foundation (PCLF) developed the Community Guide to CEQA. The California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) requires that the environmental impacts of proposed development projects be rigorously evaluated, and that feasible mitigation measures or alternatives be adopted prior to project approval. Since the Community Guide's original publication, there have been statutory changes and court decisions that have modified CEQA necessitating revisions to the Guide. The Community Guide to CEQA Workshop is open to interested individuals, non-profits and agency staff interested in learning more about CEQA with an experienced environmental attorney. The workshop includes information on the following: * How global warming fits into CEQA * Projects subject to CEQA * The responsibilities of agencies * Types of environmental impact reports * Local examples and much more! Registration Registration is required and is on a first come, first served basis. The fees for attending (which include morning coffee, lunch and The Guide) are: * $60 Agency * $45 Non-Profits * $35 Individuals Please visit the PCLF's website to register

This year's competition will feature even more events, and will include International Standard and Latin, American Smooth and Rhythm, and Nightclub dances (including Salsa, Hustle, West Coast Swing, Argentine Tango, Lindy Hop). There will also be a formation team competition, performances, a team match, and other fun events throughout the day. Finally, we will end our competition with an exciting five dance showcase by Professional Latin dance competitors Leonidus Proskurov and Aliona.

Simple Prosperity -- Finding Real Wealth In A Sustainable Lifestyle Slide show and Book signing with David Wann Shown at the SLO City/Cty Library 995 Palm Street
The book Simple Prosperity: Finding Real Wealth in a Sustainable Lifestyle outlines a new way of life that can deliver twice the satisfaction for half the resources. What we eat, where we live, where we work, and what we buy are all topics of discussion, and all can be assets that build immunity to over-consumption. The book’s underlying theme is that current, unprecedented rates of consumption can’t and won’t continue. “Because of resource shortages, a reduced capacity of the environment to clean up after us, an epidemic of debt, a longing for meaning and purpose, and a deep-seated instinct for ecological stability, we’ll invent a joyfully moderate and culturally abundant lifestyle,” author David Wann writes.

The City Nights Concert series is proud to bring you NYC Vocalist/Trombonist elizabeth! She will be performing with the Mike Raynor Group on Wednesday, Febuary 13th at the Sea Venture Hotel from 6-9pm. elizabeth! is touring the West Coast, promoting her upcoming CD "hot & silver," here is a little about elizabeth!
Vocalist and trombonist elizabeth! is one of the most in-demand bandleaders and side musicians in New York. Her working band performs her sultry arrangements of jazz standards as well as her catchy original tunes, and this new recording, "hot & silver," shows off her beautiful phrasing and sensitivity. elizabeth!'s musicianship and enthusiasm (and dance moves!) have made her a popular choice for tours and recordings with artists in genres ranging from country to indie rock to hip-hop.
Professional highlights include:
appearances at Carnegie Hall, Town Hall, and Lincoln Center, and on Good Morning America with the Metro Mass Gospel Choir
playing the Conan O'Brien Show with Patrick Wolf
a tour with St. Vincent opening for The Arcade Fire
performing at the Willisau Jazz Festival in Switzerland with Kenny Wollesen
performing with Jill Sobule and Cyndi Lauper in a tribute to Bob Dylan at Lincoln Center
becoming an official Swayette with the Matt Wilson Quartet
singing backup in the 16-piece disco group Escort
shows with the Rebirth and Dirty Dozen Brass Bands at the Blue Note, Wetlands, B.B. King's, and the Knitting Factory
Before dropping her last name for a mark of punctuation (!), Elizabeth Dotson-Westphalen grew up in a very musical family in Vermont, garnering accolades in both music and theater. While at Harvard University, she studied cognitive neuroscience and psychology and immersed herself in the Boston music scene. She played lead trombone with the Harvard Jazz Band, under the direction of Tom Everett, and performed with many of the top names in jazz.

Houston Jones performs in concert at the Coalesce Bookstore, 845 Main Street, Morro Bay, on Friday, February 15th 7:00 pm. Tickets are $15 805-772-2880.
Houston Jones, a quartet to sextet, featuring the stunning, left handed, upside down, acoustic and electric guitar playing of Glenn Houston and the golden tenor of Travis Jones (guitar), plus the double bass and harmony vocals of Chris Kee and the percussion and harmony vocals of Peter Tucker. When the eclectic fiddle and mandolin of Chojo Jacques joins them they have 3 of the 4 original Waybacks on stage. In some shows the piano and accordion of Henry Salvia are also added. Though all the band members are resident in the San Francisco Bay Area, they originate from all over the US and have about 180 years of collective professional music experience! Describing thier music as 'high energy Americana', they usually sizzle through a mix of blues, folk, country, bluegrass, Celtic, gospel, and jazz, mixing original material with the best from others. They now have 4 CDs out (three studio and one live) and two years ago stormed the main stage at the Strawberry Music Festival, where they were voted the best new band and Travis the best new vocalist. Last year they toured extensively, appearing at several major US festivals. They are surpassingly good, great fun to see live. They will be debuting material from their 4th CD, Calico Heart. http://www.houstonjones.com

A presentation by Dr. David Krieger of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation. http://wagingpeace.org
Among the topics Dr. Krieger will discuss and about which he will answer questions:
- 26,000 nuclear warheads are still maintained in the world, some on 'hair-trigger alert', in violation of non-proliferation treaties.
- The ongoing costs to societies of nuclear weapons in terms of healthcare not provided, students not educated and infrastructure decaying, because tax dollars are being spent on bombs instead of human needs.
- The corruption of otherwise sound public institutions, such as the University of California, to manage nuclear research labs and develop new 'Reliable Replacement Warheads' while Cold War weapons age into obsolescence.
- Why existing arsenals provoke other nations into developing their own nuclear weapons programs, as a defence against belligerent administrations (not just the US).
- How nuclear weapons can NEVER be used by any sane-thinking human with an expectation of survival.
Dr. David Krieger is a founder of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation and has served as President since 1982. He has lectured throughout America, Europe and Asia on issues of peace, security, international law and weapons abolition. He has been interviewed by national and international media including CNN, MSNBC and NPR. The many books published or edited by David Krieger include both non-fiction and poetry, such as, 'The Doves Flew High' in 2007; 'Today Is Not A Good
Day For War' in 2005 and 'Choose Hope - Your Role in Waging Peace in the Nuclear Age' in 2002.
Presented by the Humanist Society of Santa Barbara, in the Patio Room at Vista del Monte, 3775 Modoc Road (Las Positas exit off 101), Santa Barbara. $2 student, $5 general donation requested. Socializing 2:30pm, meeting starts 3pm.

What's funny about war, poverty, ignorance, bigotry, neo-conservatism, homophobia, greed, lust and fear? Ask Roy Zimmerman. He's been writing satirical songs for twenty years.
The Bay Area-based performer will give a concert at the SLO Library on Sat. Feb. 16. The HopeDance-sponsored event starts at 7pm. All ages are welcome. A suggested donation of $15 will be accepted at the door.
The Los Angeles Times says, "Zimmerman displays a lacerating wit and keen awareness of society's foibles that bring to mind a latter-day Tom Lehrer." Tom Lehrer himself says, "I congratulate Roy Zimmerman on reintroducing literacy to comedy songs."
Performing at New York City's Symphony Space during the 2004 Republican Convention, he drew this review from the New York Times: "Roy Zimmerman lifted the evening with his song 'Chickenhawk,' ridiculing the military policies of Bush administration officials who didn't serve in the armed forces. Zimmerman's squawking and clucking conveyed his scorn with contagious irreverence."
Zimmerman founded and wrote all the material for the comedy folk quartet The Foremen, who recorded four albums, two of them for Warner/Reprise Records.

David Edwards, author of "The Pen that Pa Built" (illustrated by Ashley Wolff & published by Tricycle Press) will be at the Book Loft, 1680 Mission Drive, Solvang for book signing and craft activity. About the book: "In this warm display of old-fashioned know-how and family spirit, a blanket is made from scratch--from the shearing to the carding, spinning, dyeing, and weaving. And it all starts in the pen that Pa built. Told through Ashley Wolff's vibrant artwork, this illustrated history of 1830s North America celebrates the lost art of creating a cherished, homemade object."

The event takes place at the downtown Santa Barbara Public Library, 40 E. Anapamu St, Santa Barbara, CA, on Thursday, February, 21 at 7pm for a donation of $5.
Most of the world's population now lives in cities. Will these rapidly growing centers of human life be sustainably designed cities, or out of control slums?
Join Santa Barbara Permaculture Network as we explore the future of cities with three films that suggest the possibility of cities that are not only sustainable, but a joy and inspiration to live in.
Modern cities have been designed for cars, and have the potential of grinding to a halt without oil as a cheap resource. Life threatening global environmental problems mandate rethinking how we design our cities in balance with living systems.
Films to be shown:
ECOCITY World Summit, 7th International Ecocity Conference Preview: Short film promoting upcoming Ecocity Conference in San Francisco, CA, with speakers from past and future conferences, including 2008 keynote speaker, Jaime Lerner, former mayor of Curitiba, Brazil.
A Convenient Truth, Urban Solutions from Curitiba Brazil: A documentary sharing ideas to provoke environmental-friendly and cost-effective changes in cities worldwide, focusing on transportation, recycling, water harvesting, ecological urban parks, and social strategies for affordable housing, that transformed Curitiba into one of the most livable cities in the world. Learn the story of Mayor Jaime Lerner as he instigated a city and its planners to move forward to innovative sustainable city design more than 30 years ago.
City Repair: Visionary architect Mark Lakeman discusses the movement that inspired and guides the grid structure of a typical American city into a vital social commons with Portland's City Repair Project (www.cityrepair.org). Santa Barbara, California: In order to create a cleaner environment for our community, The Environmental Services Division of the City of Santa Barbara is hosting a 2 day electronic waste [e-waste] collection & recycling event on Friday, February 22 & Saturday, February 23, 2008, in the parking lot of the Franklin Neighborhood Center, located at: 1136 East Montecito St, Santa Barbara, CA 93103, from 9:00AM to 4:00PM. The event is a free service to both city residents and businesses to properly get rid of their unwanted electronic products.
Study shows that 35 million pounds of e-waste are still sitting in California households and businesses. Only 10% - 15% of e-waste is currently properly dismantled or recycled. Electronic discards are one of the fastest growing segments of our nation’s waste stream. 70% of heavy metals and 40% of lead contents found in today’s landfills are from e-waste. E-waste includes electronic products or devices, such as computer monitors, televisions, PC systems, printers, home entertainment systems, copiers, and facsimile machines that have reached their useful end, whether in working condition or not.
Please come show your support for a cleaner environment by diverting e-waste away from our landfills to the appropriate recycling process.

Café Musique, an acoustic quartet from the Central Coast of California, is known for bringing elements of classical and ethnic folk music together under one musical roof. The group draws strength from the melodic and driving sound of violin and accordion coupled with vocals reminiscent of music from another era.
Featuring the talents of four accomplished musicians, all from very different musical backgrounds, the band’s sound is a collage of waltz, tango, gypsy and folk music.
From the soaring violin on classics like “Czardas”, to the passionate singing found in “How I Love this Tango”, this group has been a Central Coast favorite for over three years.
Musicians: Brynn Albanese, violin
Piper Heisig, bass and percussion

The Cal Poly Music Department will present “An Evening of American Song” at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, in the Pavilion of the Performing Arts Center on campus.
Katherine Arthur, soprano, and Susan Azaret Davies, piano, will perform two famous works: Aaron Copland’s “Twelve Poems of Emily Dickinson” and Samuel Barber’s “Knoxville: Summer of 1915.” Songs composed by Cal Poly faculty member Kenneth S. Habib, set to poems by E.E. Cummings, will also be performed.
The “Twelve Poems of Emily Dickinson” was Copland’s first major vocal piece, and some consider it one of the great song cycles of the 20th century. Barber's "Knoxville: Summer of 1915," set to excerpts from James Agee's poem, is a nostalgic look at Agee's native Knoxville, Tenn. The work depicts an evening in the American South, narrated by a child who seems, at times, to transform into an adult. Both parts are sung solo soprano.
Habib's “Poems of E.E. Cummings” is a cycle of eight poems that have been arranged in pairs. The opening pair is from “Chansons Innocentes.”
Tickets are $10 for the public and $8 for seniors and students. A 10 percent discount is given to patrons who buy season tickets to four Music Department events through the Performing Arts Ticket office; a 15 percent discount is given on tickets to five or more events. They are on sale at the Performing Arts Ticket Office from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Here is a little about Kathleen Grace:
What happens when an artist fuses the harmonic beauty of
jazz with the lyrical power of Leonard Cohen and Joni
Mitchell? The answer is found in the music of Kathleen Grace.
Hailed as one of the most exciting newcomers on the scene
today, Grace is blessed with a sound as pure as a bell ringing. Her crystalline delivery captivates her audience whether she is singing an American classic or an award-winning original.
"After a glowing recommendation from Chris Vognar, I
decided to make a getaway to the Elephant Room Friday
night. I got there just in time to see the Kathleen Grace
Band. The music was absolutely lovely. I kept trying to
think of a word to describe the Los Angeles jazz vocalist
whose voice is mellow and pure. The title of her new CD
captured the description perfectly: Songbird."
- Tracy Brown, Dallas Morning News
Following up her critically acclaimed debut CD, Sunrise
(2005), Kathleen Grace has now embarked on an eclectic
musical project, The Kathleen Grace Band. Their first
recording, Songbird, is on the Monsoon label.
